2000 9-5 lpt wagon 195000 miles.
Hope you guys can help me identify a starting problem that has just occurred in my driveway. First some back ground.
Colder weather has had me use jump cables a couple of times recently and thought it was just a dud battery about to die.
Cold night last night. Car was outside which is unusual.
When it did not start again thought that it was the battery on last gasp. (It is an almost three year old battery from Sears so it is due.)
Put the jump cables on and it would still not start.
The dash lights went on and off and there was a click with each turning cycle it struggled through. The strength of the turning over did seem to drop as it went on but no start.
Given that it did not come to life I wondering if it is an alternator or some other issue.
Can you tell from my description? Any ideas?
I have no knowledge of measuring current/drop etc although I do have a multi-meter.
It is on its original alternator by the way.....
