I think that I have narrowed leaking AC refrigerant to the low pressure Schraeder valve - but at nearly 200K miles the compressor and all the rest are not above some suspicion. Minnesota car, so not the same heat stress on hoses as further south. On the other hand, salt and sand take a toll on aluminum condensers.
What I am planning to replace: Radiator, condenser, compressor, receiver-drier, expansion valve, both Schraeder valves, and the o-rings radiator hoses done earlier).
I see some board members have had issues with the evaporator. It is not just expensive, but also hard to replace. I am considering doing the parts listed and then being extra picky during pump down to ensure no leaks.
Any rationale why the evaporator replacement kits are so expensive? I have found one source that seems to have a deal compared to the $500-$540 list pricing, but I have to call to see if that is a real price.
Thoughts and opinions are welcome. If I were driving the car myself I might just live without AC . . . but I'm not, and the regular drivers will be expected to arrive at work this summer looking fresh and dry.
Thanks in advance -
