I installed the retractable net in my '01 Aero Wagon last fall. If you have the nerve to drill and grind on your new car, you can do it yourself.

There are two mounting brackets that install in the upper edge of the left rear seatback - if you go out to your car you will see two depressions in the plastic where they go. You have to remove the trim, drill and grind the holes to the EXACT proper location and rectangular shape of the brackets, and screw them into the sheet metal. It's easy enough to do if you have the proper tools and mindset. Otherwise leave it to the dealer.

The steel net bar has angled ends that engage into tworecesses in the roof directly above the rear seat back - you have to pop out the little covers to expose the receptacles. Be sure to store those covers in a safe place in case you want to reinstall them (I put mine in a zip freezer bag in the small left storage compartment in the rear along with my wheel nut lock tool and spare fuses and whatnot).

There are two more receptacles up front above the front seatbacks that are for use with the net when the rear seatbacks are folded down - this is a very cool feature that Saab does not talk about. Leave those receptacle covers in place since you will, in all likelihood, never use that feature, and they pop out easily in any case.

The net functions fine with the rigid cargo shelf installed - there is enough gap to let the net raise and lower easily. All you see with the net retracted is a little black pull tab sticking up. The net housing does intrude a bit into the middle of the cargo area. You can remove the entire assembly in about 30 secondes by folding down the right seatback, then the left (in that order - you cannot do it the other way because the net housing impacts the right seatback). Then, with the right rear door open, smack the housing with your palm from the left side and it will disengage from the seat brackets and you can lift it out.

I keep mine in place all the time and use it rarely. But it works great for that extra stuff that accumulates on a long trip, esp if you have little kids who like stuffed animals.....

If you decide to install it yourself and run into a snag, ask and I will help if I can. There are complete instructions with the kit, but they do assume you have some mechanical aptitude.

I hope this answered your questions.
