The "Switchblade" key was on all of the test cars in Trollhättan back in 1997. It is NOT in the EPC (which covers all markets), so I would presume that they were never sent out with production cars.
One problem with them is the blade came out like a switchblade, e.g. Edge-on, unlike VW keys which have the flat of the key parallel with the side of the fob. I think that the switchblade keys would have been a real service problem, as I can see the blade getting twisted right out of the fob.
Though, I'd love to have one...or two...
