Check Fluid level on the dipstick to make sure you have enough. Then wipe the dipstick on a white towel. Is the fluid dirty red or brown?
Does the fluid smell like burnt plastic or just have a funky oil smell?
Since you drove into the gas station I doubt you fried a clutch while sitting there. You may have fried an electrical solenoid in the transmission on restart (~$100 fix) or dirty fluid may have plugged an internal orifice.
