Hi All,
During the middle of a recent longish (1400-mile round trip) trip, my 02 Aero gave me a P1312 when I started it up after a stop for a few groceries. I took it to a local AutoZone and got a P1312 code, misfire cyls. 1 & 2. I don't think there were any other coders, but it was the AutoZone person reading the OBD scanner, so I can't be sure.
After that, I cleared the code by pulling fuse 17 for a bit. The code did not recur for almost the rest of the day--which featured about 400 miles of highway driving. But it did finally pop up again at the next hotel, upon restarting the car. At that point--after staying the night--I put in my spare DIC, cleared the code (I did not have it read this time; I *assumed* it would have been 1312) and continued on my trip. Once again, later in the trip, the code reappeared.
In all cases, the code has appeared not while driving per se, but upon starting the car while warm.
At this point, I don't know whether or not I can rule out a failing DIC. The first one (my regular one) is the post-recall 5555959 or whatever version. The spare is an older pre-recall unit. Both seemed to give the 1312, but it would not surprise me if my normal one is failing; the car is at 96K miles after all.
When I pulled off the normal DIC, I did notice a hairline crack in the plastic housing, midway between the boots for cylinders 3 & 4. But since the backup DIC also gave a code--admittedly, after a long while on the road--it's difficult for me to feel confident that I have a DIC problem.
But before I spend the cash on a new DIC, can anyone suggest some alternative paths to explore what might be causing the 1312 code? The fuel pump is newish (less than a year old), the CPS is also new (Bosch).
Sorry for the long post; I want to make all potential clues available while telling the story.
all best,
David
