Tranny kick when accelerating after hard stop

When bedding brake pads on the my 01, I get some tranny kick after a hard stop. If I wait a few seconds, the kick lessons. Is this a fluid level issue or something else? The transmission has a known leak from one of the seals. The previous owner just kept an eye on it. I'm still getting the hang of how frequently I need to watch this. Similar bedding produced no kick in my 03 so something isn't right on the 01.
