I pulled the upper trim piece to the hatch. I can't tell it it's leaking as there's little to trap water there. I double-checked the onstar antenna and that was dry. I tried spraying some water at the brake light, but I didn't observe a leak. I snugged the screws with a screwdriver socket. These screws showed about 5 threads before snugging. When I press on the light on the outside, it's possible there is a little play even after snugging the screws, but not much. This part has been replaced at least once based upon the date code sticker.
Where else might water come from. The outside trim on the hatch body is messed up on this car. Might I be better off removing that entirely? The carpet on the hatch doesn't feel wet so I don't think water is coming past the seal on the hatch.
