Best way to part with my car

My 2000 v6 is dead. It needs new piston rings or a new engine, neither of which I can afford. It has about 140,000 miles and is in fairly good shape otherwise.
So I must part with it. How could I get the most money out of it? It's not inspected so selling it might be tough. I've never parted out a car, but I'm willing to try (just don't know where to start). I'm hoping to get at least $1000.
I'm guessing the wheels, interior components, the good turbo, and some other engine components like the DI packs could get me there. Then I scrap what's left I guess.
Any advice?
