Mine was doing this. Checking the coolant reservoir it was actually down coolant. Topped it with distilled water and I was good for another month or so.
The last time I got this figured I had a leak somewhere..I had already got rid of the coolant bypass valve. I could smell coolant though. Checking all hoses with a bright flashlight saw nothing.. Shining the light on the radiator I could see wet spots on the driver side of it. ...it seemed to leak when the car cools off...there was never a puddle until after a month or so watching it when it was getting real bad.

I replaced the radiator and most of the hoses eventually. I check the coolant bypass valve and radiator when the engine has cooled off.
