Not foolproof, but if the load is carefully applied by jacking directly onto the rear knuckle, the load should be just right when the jack stand on 'loaded' side just becomes unloaded - the compressed spring and shock are carrying their proper static weight. I did this on my '99 SE a while back, and the shop that did alignment for me was surprised to find that their job was mostly just inspect and confirm all was properly tightened. I was pleasantly surprised too.
