I've got both in two different cars. Something to be said for latest technology in nav units. The windshield units are easier to program and have more up to date directions. Only problem, I don't like the "stick on the windshield" look. I've found the in-dash nav unit sufficient for most trips and I like the way it is integrated into the car. If I think the in-dash directions are out of touch, I use my phone with telnav gps, works every time. It's too bad about the out dated in dash units, but oh well. It will probably fail long before the car and be a big can of worms to fix.
