What with 4 pin being the U-haul standard, I wanted to keep that but also be able to power the electric brakes on the car dolly I had. I used some 4 pole round connectors for the extra lines. Two things:
The standard trailer harness connector that was factory installed up until some time after 2002 has all the wiring connected, but the mating connector from the OE Trailer Hitch needs additional pins and wires installed for the 30 amp brake power supply (switched) and the 10 amp unswitched supply. In many states an emergency break-away is required if you have electric brakes on your trailer. The 10 volt supply is intended to keep the battery for the break away charged.
The dealer that installed the pins for me used a standard GM Connector Service Kit, so I guess the pins are kind of standard. The 30 amp pin is much heftier than the 10 amp pin. As it should be.
