with plastic drains - the only one I ever broke was when tightening it back up after. On a Saturday evening. Anyway, since then, I've always coated the threads with silicone lube before reinstalling them. It makes it so much easier to turn in and you can easily tell when it's back snug. (These things always have o-ring seals, so it doesn't need to be critically tight - just tight enough that it won't undo itself). Makes it easier to remove the next time as weil.
