Saab 95 2002 linear wagon 120,000
I have hooked up a volt meter to the battery, with the meter inside the car.
The sitting battery is about 12.35 volts, when the alternator is working it ranges from 12.7 to 13.3 volts. When the alternator is not working the voltage is around 12 and going down. if the trip is long and the alternator is not working it will not start. The cranking amps will pull volts down to 4 and it will not start. A charged battery will be lowered to 11.3 volts when starting.
In short the alternator is not always working.
There seems to be oil on the alternator. A leak from the throttle body or air intake manifold area. I can not find the leak.
Any hints on finding the leaking oil?
Do alternators fail this way and/or is the oil causing this?
Any help observations are appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
