tire wear question. Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Wed, 2 Oct 2013 03:23:07 In Reply to: Update on '05 9-5, packardv8, Tue, 1 Oct 2013 14:34:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It's a fantastic touring car. The only issue we have had is with it fairly heavily loaded, even with some effort tackling the suspension, we get some unusual tire wear (inside edge). However, I noticed you were running 41 psi. On our latest long haul trip (3000+ miles) we ran 38 psi, at about 70mph average speed on Michelin Pilot Super Sports. The car was loaded for a family of 4, so I expected to need to up rate the tire pressure from nominal. What amazed me was that (in addition to suspension induced inner edge tire wear) we got central band tire wear - the type you see when tires are overinflated. I know Norm95 also swears by high psi for fuel economy, but do you guys see central band tire wear as a result? Maybe it's partly due to the PSS tires being soft and sticky? I've never had that before on a Saab - the fwd tends to wear the outside edges of the front tires a bit more than anything else if all is in order, but otherwise tire wear should be uniform...
