I had the opposite problem on my '03 aero. It would pop open the first bump after I left the gas station.
If by jam you mean the rubbery/plasticky catch that hooks onto the movable latch I was able to bend it back to a shape that would stay closed and also open when I wanted it to.It took a few tries to get it right, and the first couple times it would stay closed like yours. I used a screwdriver to gently pry the door open in that situation.
