2002 Arc ran with too much oil

2002 Arc ran for a day with about 2 qts more oil than it should have had in it and it 'died' in the driveway. It was apparently making a loud noise that the wife thought was just coming from the exhaust.
I drained all the oil, took off both DICs, took off both valve covers just to look for anything odd, found nothing that was obvious, put it back together, put the right amount of oil in, tried to start. It tries to turn over but won't fire. I took the spark plugs out and they all had oil around the bottom (where the electrode is.) I raced around town in another car to get 6 NGK BKR7ES 11 plugs and put them in - it still won't turn over. This morning I tried to start it again and noticed the tach doesn't move at all so I am thinking I should at least try putting in the spare CPS I have.
Knowing that this engine may be toast, does it sound like I am on the right track before I have it towed to a shop? What else could running it with the extra oil have caused? The entire fuel pump assy is new, btw. Thanks for any input- JerryC
