. . . I use Prestone universal - but with full drain / flush first. Logic to do this is partly same as Ed's. Plus if my daughters or wife ever have to add AF I avoid the risk of immediate coolant sludge/precipitation in case they add 'wrong' AF type. There is some windage to these kinds of judgements, because although I'm a chemist, the labeling on these products doesn't tell the exact formulations.
Added logic for me is that all our cars have been getting AF changes every 3 years or less. With higher than average annual miles I usually have to do other things that make a coolant change either convenient or part of the other job.
If I changed coolant less often or was the only driver I might reconsider.

P.S. Past few winters we haven't had much weather < -30F, but we do drive to Northern MN often enough that I usually fill 55:45 AF:Distilled Water.
