OK, there IS a difference between cheap, no name gas and brand name.
Quantifiably, it is that the cheap gas is refined 2 times. ALL of the brand name gasoline is refined 3 - 4 times.
Now on to the price difference, imagine you need a new pair of shoes and the store has some nice Nike shoes you like for $50, then they have a pair of no name knock offs for $48. Which pair will you buy?
Next time you buy gas note the cheap places price and do the math, around here it is usually only 2-3%.
I worked in and around service departments for more than 12 years and have seen dozens ( seriously, multiple dozens) of different cars, mainly European designs, come in with odd MPG or drivability issues that have been SOLVED with 1-2 tanks of Chevron or Shell or whatever brand name quality gasoline is available.
When you buy motor oil do you get the cheap no name generic or ask for Mobil 1 or Valvoline?
I don't work for any of these companies and never have, but it is the truth. For the tiny price difference it is not worth it.
