Intermittent low beam failure

2006 9-5 80,000 miles with standard halogen bulbs.
For the past few weeks my passenger side low beam will go off, (usually when I hit a fair sized bump but not always), it trips the headlight out warning light and will come back on in a few minutes. Sometimes a rap on the plastic headlight can cause it to come back on, or if it is on, it will go off with the rap. Replaced halogen bulb twice, same symptoms. High beam is not affected, when low beam goes off a flick to the high beams shows they is still working. Have gone in a few times to re-seat the bulb and the condition remains.
The Jones plug for that bulb is missing a piece of plastic on one side (car came that way to me) but the connection seems to be solidly in the body of the plug and attaches to the bulb fine. Connector appears to be clean.
Any ideas? Could it be too much current/amps or voltage in the system?
Thanks in advance.
