Do both cars have the same brand and size battery? My 2000 SE starts MUCH faster with a new AutoZone Duralast Gold. I'd used their cheaper "Duralast" (red top) previously, and while it started the car OK, it was nothing like the gold has been the past few months. Dropped one in my LPT wagon, and the two times it started (other electrical issues...), it was much the same. Fast, easy startup, much faster than the older batteries.
I'm not necessarily suggesting you go to Autozone for your battery, but the particular battery selection may have an effect on your starting.
Next is the battery cables. These have a history of issues, and many need to be replaced after not so many years. The battery cables go from the battery to the starter and then the alternator, with a branch from the battery end to the fuse box. It's all one piece, and the wires can corrode or even the strands can break, and less wire means less current to the starter.
