When 10W30 was factory fill in the 9000
a) there was .12% phosphorous in the form of Zinc dithiophosphate, and extremely effective EP additive, necessary for lubricating the gear teeth. Today's automobile oils generally have half that, or less.
b) friction modifiers were unheard of in motor oil. Today they are required for ILSAC GF oil. Friction modifiers interfere with the operation of the synchros.
If motor oil is used in an automobile transmission, it should be ***Motorcycle*** motor oil, as many motorcycles share the engine oil with a gearbox and a wet clutch, and therefore have both high levels of EP additives and don't use friction modifiers. Diesel engine oil would be a second choice.
