I always used copper plugs in my 2000 base model and changed them at 20,000 mile intervals. Oftentimes they cost less than $2 per plug.
My 2008 Aero requires platinum plugs and the WIS specifies 40,000 miles between replacement. Cost for these is closer to $12 per plug.
My math says the copper plugs are less expensive for engines which do not require the platinum for other reasons.
