Help in ABS Diagnosis - Christmas tree, but . . . .

1999 9-5 SE 2.3lpt with ca 213K miles now.
My daughters share this car, and last night I got a phone call about all dash warning lights on and the speedometer not working. They got the car to me today. They said the lights came on when they started, but went out as they left the parking lot. In a couple of restarts the symptom has not recurred for me.
I tried an OBDII reader just in case (in an old post MI Roger suggested it was an "iffy" chance whether OBDII could diagnose a bad wheel speed sensor). From my understanding '99 vehicles are not as easily diagnosed for bad ABS controllers as 2000 and up.
I have a 'newer' 1999 - VIN above the "-303" breakpoint in my WIS. Will a bad wheel speed sensor set a DTC? I have none on the car right now.
Should I drive until I get a 'solid' failure? Likelihood BBA tests will detect fractured but intermittently contacting wire(s)?
Thanks for any input. I hate to spend $$ on guessing, but I have to get the car reliable again soon.
