I use AmsOil European Full SAPS: Code EFM. It's a 5W40 and meets BMW LL-01, ACEA A3/B3, and API SN/SM. I've been using it for the past 40,000 miles and the consumption rate has remained the same (about a pint in 5,000 miles). I change it every 5,000 miles. According to the dealer that sold and serviced the car, it always got Mobil 1 before I got it. Most any Group IV Synthetic that meets ACEA A3/B3 will be fine. Go to a site called bobistheoilguy and read up on ACEA A3/B3 and Group IV synthetic lubricants. Not many lubes meet the ACEA spec: AmsOil, Motul, RP, and European Castrol (BMW and VW branded lubes) come to mind.
Saab calls out GM-LL-A-025 but bear in mind that our engines were designed and spec'd more than 15 year ago and oil has changed considerably since then.
