AC troubleshooting

Anyone think the cabin air filter could reduce efficiency of the AC (having inspected since purchasing this 2008 wagon with just 35k miles)? Getting reports that AC is not cooling the vehicle when it is >80-85 degrees and sunny though there are 2 condensate puddles under the car.
How about coolant bypass? Could I be mixing in warm air unintentionally?
I've made an appointment to take it to an AC shop, but some of these things are probably going to be outside their expertise or experience.
