2001 9-5 2.3 LPT 5-sp. 48,500 miles...

I have read the many postings on this issue related to earlier model years and turbo replacements.

The last two mornings after sitting overnight with ambient temperatures of 50-60 degrees F (and two other times weeks apart last winter) I have been greeted by a big puff of blue/white smoke when starting. There is no further smoke visible by the time I can walk back to the back of the car. These are the only times this has happened. I do have some black dry carbon deposites at my tailpipe (I'm not sure what is normal). I have not noticed any loss in power, oil consumption, or driveability problems. The only other problem I have had with the car was the DI cassette failing a at 45,000 miles. I had my local garage use Mobil 1 when I changed the oil at 42,000 miles.

I called my dealer (Stetson's Motors in Warren, Maine) and Howard told me that it is "normal." When told that I had read about the turbo replacements on earlier models, he said that he had gotten a dealer bulletin and with my MY the issue was a "computer calibration problem" that Saab has decided not to fix. I checked the TSBs on alldatadiy.com, and there is no related TSB listed... at least for the '01MY. Howard has been a straight shooter in the past.

I find it hard to believe that any oil smoke clouds are normal.

Before I pursue the issue further, I would appreciate any feedback. Has anyone else has had this problem with their '01 9-5s? If so, what were you told and how was the issue resolved? Howard also said that the turbo was not covered under the Emissions System extended warranty... so am I correct in thinking that I have 1,500 miles of warranty left?

Thanks in advance for any responses.
