Hello,
The easiest guess on the leak would be the coolant bypass valve because it leaks pretty much directly on the cat and dexcool does not have that old sweet burning smell so it can smell more plastic like or electrical. As far as buying dexcool it usually needs mixed 50/50 with water. But if you just going to the shop water might be good enough just tell them so they add a higher dilution of dexcool to make up for the water you added. But a pressure test will be needed to pinpoint the leak. If you search for bypass valve on this board you will find a lot of information about this common leak. Good Luck, Bernie at George Riggin Specialty Automotive
