My 01 Aero engine would "cut-out" during heavy/rapid acceleration. It was always an unconformable experience, esp. merging/over-taking at high speed. The turbo needle would never enter the red zone.
But during "gentle" acceleration it had no problem climbing in to 80s, 90s MPH...
I changed spark plugs, air/fuel filters,...but did alter the behavior. I chalked it up to old age. it was in that pathetic state for 2 summers (or more).
Until the fuel pumped died in a parking lot. With the new fuel pump installed, the car became alive again...
If it was the throttle, the acceleration would have gotten worse in other MPH zones; not just only in the 50-60 band. Also, you would soon learn to avoid the dead zone by feathering the accel. pedal.
