I have an 06 9-5 at 150,000 miles with similar issues. The transmission slips almost always between 2nd and 3rd and gives you the impression it has 6 gears. I set the trans light once on a hard accel on the freeway and set a Torque converter solenoid code (can't remember exact DTC). Although I don't experience harsh engagement
From my experience with auto transmissions you either replace the fluid regularly or you never do. I changed the trans fluid 3 times over the course of a month or so with no improvement noticed. In my research on this trans I found that it seems the AW55-50SN is only capable of handling about 250 hp which is less than these cars output. So I wouldn't expect these transmissions to last too long.
These transmissions also went in Volvo's and most of their blogs point to a solenoid issue when dealing with slipping. A solenoid set is about $200 and the transmission rebuild kit is under $400 with upgraded parts. The issue I am having is finding someone to do the work. Mechanics these days seem scared of SAABs even though this trans went in lots of other foreign (mostly Asian) vehicles. You could get a junk yard trans for less than $1000 but you roll the dice and even a new one at $2200 will eventually be plagued with its weak power capabilities. Find a good trans mechanic and have him rebuild it if you plan to keep your car.
