A few times I carried nine 80 pound bags of concrete mix for ~10 miles. I put 3 bags on the front passenger seat and 6 bags on the rear seat. That is a total of 325 kg (or 400 kg including driver). Equivalent to driving with 5 180 lbs people I guess. The car was sagging a lot but I think it was still ok.

Avoid putting a lot of heavy stuff in the trunk - that stuff overloads the rear axle. It actually lifts the front axle and puts more weight on the rear axle that it weights itself.
