1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I remember the first time I noticed a Saab. It was a convertible Eduardian grey SPG 900. It was in like 1990, It was parked in my apartment community. I couldnt take my eyes off of it. I said to myself, one day I will have one. I was like 19 years old. Well, I found out that it was more than I could afford. I ended up getting a 1987 900 s, Rose colored. After a few years of people telling me they loved my car ( at the time ) I went to a SAAB only mechanic. Once again, I saw an spg, .. in the bay. 6 months later, I traveled to the Bay Area to purchase a 1987 SPG. I drove it back to Vegas, and I was amazed at the power. I lowered it right away and started becoming an official Saab freak. I went to Saab Summit in Lake Tahoe, ordered group 6 apc, etc etc. That car was immaculate. not a ding, scratch, replaced EVERYTHING NEW ! Then, I thought I wanted a 9000 Aero. I sold my 87 spg to a best friend. I returned to Bay area on a plane and a cab ride to pick up a used 9K Aero. I got there, and it wasnt in the condition I had hoped. So..... I was really bumbed out. ok, well, in the next week I purchased another 900 spg ! 1988, Edwardian Grey, again, Flawless. Same thing, lowered it, added performance, etc etc. Good times. My best friend and I rolled around Vegas with exact twin 900's lowered and beefed up. With all the little things like side vent covers, blacked out tint, .it was fun times. I remember leaving the movie parking lot after the original FAST And FURIOUS movie came out. We both tore around town after the movie, eating up 95% of cars we encountered. Next step, get that 9K. .. My other friend I met , who was a tech at the Saab shop drove a black 1995 9k Aero. Pimped out. Lowered, Abbott Racing ecu, Abbott exhaust, shiny black. AZEV rims. WOW ! so much faster than my spg. I bought his car ! % speed manual, crazy fast, again could beat at the time 95% of cars encountered. Time to up grade.. Next, 9/5, This one was shipped to me from a dealership in Ohio. I drove it when it came off the truck. I was amazed how fast it was .. 2002 Aero, full touring package, Ok, process again, lowered, added tricks ie: BSR ecu, all the other goodies. I still have this car, Its flawless.. in and out.. 250 k miles on original turbo. to me, this was the last TRUE year of NON GM influence. besides a couple small things, it was a Trollhattan product. Where Saab went wrong in my opinion. They stuck with the name. The name is not very flattering. SAAB, not a sexy name. They should have marketed the new name VECKTOR, as the brand. They should have given LIMITED lead-way on changes to GM. GM should have had better , more imaginative designers and more creative advertizing . How did a company built on "quirkiness" all of a sudden start putting out cars that look like Ford Tempo! The commercials of small colored balls and hot air balloons and tapping pencils ? REALLY ??? They should have implied aggressiveness! Being different, not a car that looks like any other boring car. 6 cylinder ! Really ? Thats not what Saab was about. 4 cylinder turbos made them. I wanted to see commercials where 3 cars were at a stop light.. one Suburu with a huge wing, one Evo with a huge wing, and then a new, classy yet sporty designed, under assuming yet aggressive VECKTOR(formally SAAB) pulling up.. And the narrator saying " To all those who are followers , Its time to follow the leader " But no, . Saab and GM wrecked it all, now I cant continue my quest of growing old with new different Saabs, I STILL get people coming up and telling my what great lines and profile my car has. I still eat up 95% of cars I encounter in little races.. The turbo x isnt half bad. But after that ....NADA FU%& you GM, and all your lame ideas, for Saab, .. Guess all you people werent soooooo smart as you thought at GM. GM was nothing more than non creative , superficial, no depth, monkeys.
