Yep, that describes it about right.
I just put new tires on my 9K semi-Aero. I decided that with the Aero springs & shocks and SAS Bars, the lovely deteriorating roads here in NH, and for the number of trips I seem to make to NYC, NJ and Philadelphia that I needed something a little softer. I had been burning through a set of W-rated Bridgestone RE 960 AS Ultra High Performance All Seasons I'd had for over 35K miles. They wore well but got too hard as they aged. But what to get?
I considered the Conti DWS, but reviews convinced me they would be too much like the RE 960s, so I backed down to a Grand Touring tire. But I didn't want something as soft as the Michelin MXV 4 Primacies on my wife's wagon. I decided to take a chance on the Bridgestone Serenity Plus, 205/55x16, H-rated. It was the right choice, and I'll put them on the wagon when the Michelins wear out. Ride is much smoother, tires are quieter, but still do well in spirited (but not hard) cornering. I definitely wouldn't want them for track days like I did with the 960s, but for how I use the 9K now they are fine.
But I was concerned that they'd be too soft. So after a couple thousand miles I think I guessed right, but tires are still pretty hard to predict and select.
