Ordered "2002+" rear backing plate for driver's side and installed on my 2000. This part actually consists of 2 pieces pressed together, the caliper mounting bracket and the dust shield. The same GM/Saab part number is stamped on both my 15 year old original and the brand-new caliper mounting bracket, the only difference being the diameter of the dust shield. The old (smaller) dust shield just fits inside the new one, overall OD difference of maybe a half inch.
The passenger side is apparently out of production, however if someone really needed to replace theirs, I noticed that the dust shield itself will fit either side, but due to the design of the parking brake the caliper mounting bracket is specific to the proper side of the vehicle i.e. you can't just flip it over because the parking brake would be upside down. If you were extremely careful you could probably remove the dust shield from a new driver's side and re-press it onto the passenger side.
