Module batteries went south for the umpteenth time, and replacement CR17335 (not SE) lasted six months or so. As for module replacement, there's no way I'm parting with $300 to protect a car that no one would possibly want to steal, but I do like the lock chirp. However, I cant risk further neighbor conflict with random, early morning sirens.
So I sliced the module open with a Dremel and did a little surgery. First, picked up a handy box, a mini SPST switch and a short length of 18AWG 4 conductor wire. Took out the board batteries, and used two of the wire conductors to remotely locate a new 6V battery (2CR5, 1400mAh) in the handy box. Also mounted the SPST switch in the handy box and used the remaining two conductors to wire the switch to interrupt the red leads feeding the siren. Drilled out the six screw post blanks in the module so I could reassemble with screws, reinstalled in fender well, and Velcroed the handy box to a spot next to my battery in engine compartment. Siren is my slave now - if it gets hinkey for whatever reason, at first sign of trouble I banish it. At the very least, I'm better off in that I won't have to clear the service alarm message on SID even if it buys the farm for good.
Although I picked the highest mAh shelf battery I could find, the lithium camera battery may die soon given the known sensitivity of the module to rejecting any power source other than the OEM Sanyos. I may make another attempt at installing another set of CR17335s, or maybe not if SID message doesn't return, even if no siren or chirp.
I am in control now, evil Lucas.
