I haven't had to deal with it myself and I don't have those removal tools either (p/n 8471203) but it only talks about inserting the tools and pull the head unit out just like it has been for ages.
The problem is that the tool changes with times and not knowing the quirks of each tool, it can be a hit and miss to make one that would work.
It kind of look like a tongue depressor with a notch on to grab onto and release whatever is in there.
The early 80s 900 had a similar looking hook device tool before they settled on those round coat hanger style tools that has been used ever since.
