Gas smell after fill up

I have this hunch that the last time I started smelling gas after fill ups was just prior to my fuel pump going bad. But I don't have a ton of solid info to base this hunch on.
I changed my cabin air filter not long ago so I don't think that's it.
Anything else it might be? It was a bummer when my fuel pump let go last time ... as it did so right at a busy intersection. Was not fun.
