For my 1999 9-5 we switched to a genuine Saab set of replacements when the carpet pile fabric originals wore out. Actually, the driver side always wears out first...! Anyway the Saab replacement mats were heavy duty coarse fabric that wore like iron, but the driver side heel area eventually wore through. As of 2 years now, we have been pretty happy with a complete set of L.L. Bean carpet mats. They don't have the pre-punched holes to anchor them to the in-floor plastic hooks and they are a little undersized, but that's what we are satisfied with for now.
I suppose the ultimate might be switching to a US made WeatherTech set if you want the full dish rack drip pan type protection..!
