Manual Transmission Stuck Fill/Drain Plugs - Long

At 213 K miles I have had no tranny or shift problems with my 1999 9-5 since having my indie shop change out the manual transmission fluid to the recommended GM Opel synthetic fluid over 5 years ago. I had intended to drain and refill (1.5 litres +-) with the same synthetic fluid before a just completed 500 mile road trip. I first tried the top fill 8 mm plug at the top of the transmission, but using a 10" extension on my 3/8" ratchet down past the battery got me nowhere as it wouldn't budge! Some PB Blaster didn't help either. \ No way can I get the drain plug out with the recommended cut down 8 mm Allen wrench. I started to use the short trimmed off end with a 8mm box wrench, but didn't want to destroy the wrench. Even getting to the inspection plug seems just as difficult and it certainly doesn't look like it is 8 mm. All this was attempted with the car on front jack stands and the driver wheel off the front hub for added access.
I'm afraid to get more physical with these fill and drain plugs by using a breaker bar, in case the hex bit or Allen wrench end damages any of these plugs. They look like they are aluminum? Maybe I cave and take the car to my not so favorite/last resort indie garage and let them take the risk? Any good advice?
Thanx,
Kirk d
