When the rear shocks were removed, the springs on both of them just rattled around on the old shocks they were so loose. The rear shocks still had a bit of damping left in them and no oil leaks. The front struts were very easy to fully compress with pressure from an index finger. Rebound was nonexistent. The front struts were fried, one of the bump stops fell apart in 2 pieces.
After about 50 miles today on a variety of road surfaces the Saab feels very different now, no distubance from small road irregularities, no more crashing or banging, and much smoother over potholes and speed bumps. Car seems to turn in quicker and corner much flatter than ever before. With the spacers and new rear springs it raised the back end quite a bit, a little over spec, but this will probably drop a bit as these springs begin to settle in (and begin to sack out). Maybe the car turns sharper because of the change in F to R weight bias.
Now the car is rather delightful on tight curvy roads, pleasant and fun to drive. Rides smoother and quieter than wife's low mileage 2010 S80 now and handles a lot better, also spent 50 miles in that car today.
So far, Konis claims for thiese dampers seem to be accurate. We shall see how they do long term.
