So, picked up a digital mm today (neighbor was away so I thought $20 was a worthwhile investment).
Accessed speaker from trunk, removed harness and tested impedance. Seemed ok once I got the leads from the tester on firmly. As expected was just a bit below two ohms.
Then I checked continuity of the cables. Checked out ok, no tone when stereo was off, but had a tone when I put the stereo on (minimal volume).
I then out the cable back on the speaker, making sure it was firmly on (it came off easier than I expected - not very loose but not a big effort). Tuned the radio to a local reggae station and hit test mode. All speakers seemed to fire properly, and when I returned the radio to normal mode, the sound was as it should be.
I will keep an ear on it and see how things go. Maybe it was just a sketchy connection, or maybe I jostled something while trying to get the leads on for the tester. We will see!
