I'm guessing this is a 2.3 auto trans. Dropping the exhaust is the easy part, the problem is if you look at the oil pan removing all the bolts and letting the pan fall on its own it will hit the passenger side sub frame and the other end (driverside) of the pan will be wedged by the transmission. The pan won't just drop out. What needs to be done is the motor needs to be pushed over toward the driver side an inch or more. This will move the transmission over the inch needed to free the wedged pan so it will pull free dropping it down and out away from the subframe. The only way to reinstall the pan is to have this clearance.

There are vital steps one needs to perform in order to get the motor/ transmission to move at all. The passenger side motor mount needs to be loosened or removed, and the upper transmission motor mount needs to be unbolted. I used a motor jack to hold the weight of the motor/transmission while the mounts were removed/unbolted. Next step would be to force the motor over the inch. I stuck a breaker bar in between the subframe and the lower pully wheel on passenger side and wedged it over. I did the chore twice. 1st time not knowing what was needed to be done it took me about 6hours and I had a heck of a time getting the motor to move over the inch. After the job was done I'd rate it a 9 out of a 10 on one of the hardest jobs I ever did.

The 2nd time I did it things went much smoother. The job took 2 hours and I must of really man handled the motor getting it to move over becouse there was tons of room under there. Had like 2 to 4 inches of room. 2nd time I'd rate it a 5 out of a 10, where as 10 is car needs to be towed to the indie to get fixed.

Heres a pic of how the car sat (on ramps with the hoist) the bottom pic is where the breaker bar was inserted (top of pully wheel and frame) then forced that stinken beast over.

dropping the pan is no joke
