It seems some of the problem was a loose v-clamp at the turbo. Fix by fix, my 01 is getting quieter.
Some observations with questions: From the bottom of the v-clamp, there's some grey colored grease on the underside of the clamp area. Is that normal or is it seeping from somewhere? It's distinctly different than the oil leak that's covering the engine in oil and crud. Is there a seal that could have torn from the loose v-clamp?
The bracket from the engine to the exhaust is cracked near where the bolt holding this and another bracket goes into the block. I'm guessing this is isn't worth fixing. I forgot to check if the bracket is an entirely independent piece.
I also found a new long bolt hanging about the bay (headbolt or longer, but with a hex head and captured washer) and a shorter bolt buried in the frame channel (accidentally got tossed, but must have been in there for ages). My indy lost a socket so we were poking about. The socket remains MIA.
