I tried to start my Saab after work. It would not stay running and would backfire when started like commonly occurs with a bad fuel pump. I has 110k so I suspected the pump is in its last days. With my foot continually on the accelerator I Was able to drive it partially home. But every time I took my foot off the gas it would stall. I got the blinking cel. And pulled it in to a friends restaraunts staff parking lot for the evening. I ordered a fuel pump and planed to replace t when I receive it. In the mean time I have an identical 2002 v6 arc. I though there might be a slight chance that the issue is the mass air sensor. So, I traveled back and decided to take off the mass air sensor wire. Hun! The care runs fine and idles steady around 800-900 rpm. So, thinking that I may have found the problem I removed the mass air sensor on its twin 9-5 and swapped it out. After swapping out the sensors and connecting it up. It ran for less than a minute and died. It ran exactly as it did with the other mass air sensor. I disconnected the mass air sensor and drove it home. With the mass air wire off it ran perfect. Anyone have a best guess? I think I can eliminate the fuel pump and dic as culprits. I put the suspected bad mass air sensor on my other v6 Saab. It runs fine with it connected. Should I consider the throttle body? I have not pulled any engine codes. ( I suspect the engine codes may mislead me with the maf seƱsor disconnected and triggering a cel. With the mass air meter connected it runs like it has a severe vacuum leak, but I have not found any leaks yet.
