I successfully used this method today. On one jaw of the reversible clamp, I fastened a small 1" C-clamp and then tightened down on the key shank. On the other jaw, I ran two zip ties through the key loop (in order to spread the tensile load so as not to deform the rubber too much). I found that I needed to "encourage" the tensioning process by pushing downwards on the expanding jaw, as the tensile force produced by the clamp alone is insufficient.
