Thought I would 1) give some input as brand new owner of an Op-Com code reader and 2) solicit comments on Autel MaxiDAS 708.

I currently maintain five vehicles - 3 SAAB 9-5's, Honda Odyssey, and BMW 325xi. Newest is the Odyssey (2012). That one has required the least maintenance, and historically I expect it will stay that way (but that's not guaranteed). Everything these days needs electronic diagnosis, and I need some flexibility in my diagnostic tools

I bought the Op-Com because one 2006 SC has an intermittant ABS/ESP light upon start up, and my standard code reader can't tell me anything helpful about where to look. I will not see that car again until next week, but I will report back when I get some data.

Op-Com install on my WinXP machine was painless (so far). I didn't have to download any software from the net, and it did not trigger my anitvirus when I scanned. All I did to install was create a folder on my Desktop and copy all files from the mini CD to the folder. I ran the Op-Com exe file and thanks to others comments I easily found the "GM based SAAB" entry at the bottom of the Opel listings. When I plugged in the Op-Com, the PC asked to install the USB driver, and it worked fine. I have not yet tried it on my SAABs to see what it really does, but for under $23 delivered, it looks useful. There is a lot of confusing 'chaff' on which vendors sell what version, and whether a USB cable and CD are included or not. I hope this will address my basic questions about which corner has a problem with the ABS/ESP - I will use the archives or post to trouble shoot from that data.

I would also like as much SAAB input as possible about the Autel MaxiDAS 708. Looks like I can get one from Harbor Freight for $1100 less 20% - but $900 is still not cheap. The reviews are generally good, but would be nice to know about SAAB specific experience. It is atractive in that I have multiple manufacturers to cover, and it seems to get good marks (better than some of the more established independent brands).

Hope the information the my Op-Com experience is helpful. Please comment on any Autel MaxiDASA experience - good or bad.

Thanks !

it may be worth investing in something like the Autel MaxiDAS 708 if it performs close to what reviews describe.
