Follow-up on brake light switch for 2008 9-5 Sportcombi Posted by NCCaniac [Email] (#352) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NCCaniac) on Mon, 20 Jul 2015 11:02:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A week ago (13 July), I posted a question about the brake system when I was getting the brake warning light, ABS and TCS lights coming on with my 2008 9-5 Sportcombi.
Member "pme" suggested I check the brake light switch first as that failing can cause some related symptoms. eEuroparts only had one brake light switch left for the 2008 9-5 (part #90245780, supposedly OEM, and made by Facet in Italy) so I ordered it as it was less than $15.
My 9-5 Haynes manual said that the switch is mounted at the top of the brake pedal bracket and the photo in the book only shows one switch and cable there. When I removed the trim piece in the driver side footwell, however, the bracket seems to have two switches mounted at the top. Could one be a switch to turn off cruise control when you step on the brake pedal? What else I noticed is that both of those switch modules seem to have a square plastic body, whereas the Facet switch that arrived from eEuroparts has a hexagonal shaped body.
So...now the questions are:
1) Which switch is the brake light switch? If I get the right one out I can certainly test it with a multimeter to see if it has failed or has inconsistent readings when open or closed. The Haynes manual says the switch can be removed from the bracket with a quarter turn counterclockwise, and then unplug the connector.
2) Is this Facet switch truly an equivalent replacement of the old switch? The Saab part number is on a sticker on the side of the box. On the end of the box there is another sticker that says the switch is for either a Chevrolet Leganza or an Alfa 164.
