I'm not sure why coolant has to be made this complicated. I've got an 01 too that must have had blue Saab G48 and now has green coolant. I'm thinking of flushing (just distilled versus a flush?) and going to G05 so my Saabs all use the same coolant.

The MB spec is DBL 7700.20 / 325.0 which includes G48 and G05. See http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/325.0_en.html . For some reason, MB switched from G05 to G48. According to MB, G48 is nitrite free and contains an organic acid salt instead of nitrite. It sounds like there could be corporate environmental reasons for the switch as opposed to much functional difference between G05 and G48. One advantage to yellow is that it can't be mistaken for green.

In case anyone is in pinch for fluid, this could be useful. Just go to the nearest dealer and double check the fluid color. The slight pH difference might be meaningful.
