I think you need to monitor engine temperature and see what it is doing to make sure it is not running too hot.
If the engine is NOT overheating but still pushes coolant out when cap is released, you might have a minuscule head gasket breach that allows combustion gasses to pressurize the system.
It is very far fetched that the water pump would not work.
If you start the engine cold and then let it warm up with cap removed and monitor engine temp at the same time and see when the upper radiator hose is getting hot when thermostat opens and then further up in temperature when the cooling fan kicks in, it should not start to overflow during that test.
If the upper radiator hose is not getting hot and it starts to overflow, you probably have a bad thermostat.
